The Human Rights Violations Victims’ Memorial Commission offers their sincerest prayers and condolences to the bereaved family of Fr. Eliseo “Jun” Mercado Jr. who passed away last Sunday at 72 years old.
“Bapa Jun”, as he was affectionately known, championed peace in Central Mindanao and Sulu since the dark days of the 1972-1986 Martial Law Era. He and his brothers of the cloth from the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a United Nations accredited NGO and missionary group, have helped many communities. Prior to his passing, he remained steadfast in aiding the Mindanao community’s peace process and peace building efforts by facilitating peaceful negotiations between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the national government.
Today, #WeRemember Fr. Jun’s faith and commitment for peace and truth.
